About

My entire life I have been surrounded by creative people. As a child, I loved painting with my grandmother or coloring with my mom. When I grew older, I developed a love for writing, drawing, and sculpting. By the time I had graduated high school, I had fallen in love with creating art using media such as Illustrator. For me, it made sense to follow the path I chose.

Hi, my name is Nicki Wood and I love what I do. I am currently wrapping up my last semester at Lansing Community College in Michigan. In December 2021, I graduate with my associates in graphic communications. I recently worked at Origami Rehabilitation, as their very first communications intern.

During my experience at LCC, I have been given the opportunity to enter several design competitions, of which I have won two. The first was a logo design competition for LCC’s (still in development) Open Learning Lab. The second was a class project where we were required to develop a brand’s marketing materials for those who originally created the brand. After the four students assigned to the same brand as me, presented, the panel deliberated, and ultimately chose my design package. This competition was not as high level as the first, but it was a project that I truly enjoyed, and to receive that recognition was incredibly rewarding.

Over the years, I have developed and redeveloped my design process. When I started, I obviously didn’t have the same set of skills that I have now. I tried a few different things, but I wasn’t sure how to convert my ideas into reality. Now that I have a proper skill set, when I design, I have the tools necessary to better represent my ideas. I set my goals and gather the materials needed to get to my established end goal. Then, the process of creating, recreating, and tweaking over and over again begins, until I find the perfect solution that aligns with my preconceived end goal.
