Dance Poster

This Dance Open House poster was one of my earliest experiences using Illustrator for something more than an assignment.

LCC was having a series of events that needed posters, so my class was commissioned with creating those. Each group took on a different event. I was in a group with one other student who had the Dance Open House.

We each created a poster for the event, and when they were finished, one of them from each group was supposed to be selected to go up around campus to advertise the event. Unfortunately the Dance Open House was the only event to be cancelled, so neither mine nor the other student's got its debut. When creating this artwork, I didn’t change it up too much once I was set on a theme, however, originally I wanted to take a different approach. I was going to go with a ballet or tap theme, but it wasn’t shaping up the way I had envisioned it. Once I did decide on my direction, my biggest concern was finding the perfect font to convey the message. Fortunately for me, I was very lucky in finding the font I did.

I think a big part of what makes this piece work well is the beams from the lights. They create a sense movement and emphasis in highlighting the stage. The contrast between the background colors and the font colors also works well to draw emphasis from the stage up to the text.
